Application Categories and Eligibility
1. Student and General Public Category
There is no specific eligibility requirement. This category includes people enrolled in university, graduate school, college, specialized training college, specialized vocational high school, and other educational programs.
2. Architect and Designer Category
This category includes professional creators in a wide range of genres such as the designers of architecture, city designers, graphic designers, and visual artists.
- In both categories, an application may be made as an individual or as a group. We also welcome co-work proposals encompassing a wide range of genres.

Selection Method
The selection process will consist of two phases of assessment by the jury.
In the first phase, about 10 works will be selected from each category to progress to the next phase. The successful entries will be announced on the Website.
In the second phase, which will be open to the public, the successful applicants in the first phase will provide presentations (approx. 10 minutes each) and have an interview (approx. 10 minutes each) before the jury discuss and determine the winners for each prize.
In the first phase, about 10 works will be selected from each category to progress to the next phase. The successful entries will be announced on the Website.

- The Special Award will be selected by the organizer after an initial screening.
- The open assessment phase will take place in a face-to-face, online, or hybrid mode depending on the situation of COVID-19 infections. Its details will be announced on the Website. The successful applicants in the first phase will be directly contacted.
Prizes
First Prize
2 million yen, certificate, and trophy (1 work x 2 categories = 2 works in total)
Second Prize
500,000 yen and certificate (2 works x 2 categories = 4 works in total)
Honorable Award
300,000 yen and certificate (4 works x 2 categories = 8 works in total)
Special Award
500,000 yen and certificate (2 to 3 works overall regardless of the categories; Osaka Pavilion Award, etc.)
- The All Japan Real Estate Association may co-create (adapt / produce) videos or other forms of works for display at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai using the prize-winning works.
- The results will be determined and announced at the venue of the second selection phase.
Application Method and Submissions
Register your interest at the MIRAI REBORN SUMAI PROJECT’s official website (hereinafter, the “Website”) during the registration period (Thursday, January 12, 2023 to Wednesday, May 10, 2023).
After the close of the registration period, each registered applicant will receive an URL to upload their application data from the Osaka Association of Architects & Building Engineers.

During the application period (Monday, June 12, 2023 to Thursday, August 10, 2023), applicants must upload the following data using the URL sent to each registered applicant (which is specific to each applicant). Applicants may upload data only once and must comply with the following rules on the number of data and file formats.
- A PDF file containing the following contents on one-sided A1-size page (594 × 841 mm)
- Concept: Use either the Japanese or English language; the Japanese text may not exceed 1,000 letters, while the English text may not exceed 350 words.
- Layout plan, 2D diagram, elevation plan, cross-section diagram, perspective drawing, CG, model photos, etc.; no rule on scale or expression.
- These plans, etc. must show the exterior space and interior space, respectively.
- 3D videos

A 60-second or shorter MPEG-4 video on the proposal content.
Please use MP4 (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 standard) for the video format, 15 Mbps bitrate, 30 fps frame rate, and 4 K or lower resolution. - A video comprising the succession of still images (e.g., sketches), shots of models, or Building Information Modeling (BIM). It may have subtitles but cannot contain sound (e.g., BGM).
Q&As
- Applicants may ask questions between Thursday, January 12, 2023 and Monday, April 10, 2023. Questions must be asked in the stipulated Q&A format.
- The answers to the questions will be published on Friday, April 28, 2023 on the Website.
Notes:
- After the winners are selected, they may be asked to submit the following data or images to co-create (adapt / produce) videos or other forms of works for display at the Osaka Pavilion.
- Buildings: Drawings in an Autodesk 3DS format (with the file extension, 3DS or MAX) and created by CAD (The winners in the Architect and Designer Category must submit these data, while the winners in the Student and General Public Category are requested to cooperate within the scope possible.)
- Background: Still images or sketches
- Exterior: Still images or sketches
- Interior: Still images or sketches of characteristic two to three rooms
- In addition, we may request the winners to submit the materials, etc. they used to produce their video, as needed.
Participation fee
There is no application fee.
The applicants who successfully passed the first phase will receive up to 50,000 yen per group to cover costs for transport, accommodation, etc. to participate in the secondary phase.

Other important matters
(1) Submitted works
- We will not return the submitted works.
- While the copyright to the submitted work will belong to the applicant, the right to publish the work will be retained by the organizer of this event.
- The submitted works and information on the applicants (e.g., video data) may be used on the Website of this project, press releases, and other instances.
- The proposals must not infringe the copyright, portrait right, and other rights of third parties.
- If any violation of intellectual property rights or other problem is found after an application is made, the relevant applicant will be held fully responsible for such violation or problem, and the event organizer may decide to withdraw any prize given to the said applicant and their work.
- The event organizer, co-sponsors, and other concerned parties will not be held responsible for any trouble, direct or indirect damage, etc. that has arisen to an applicant due to this project.
- The selection process will be conducted anonymously. To ensure this, please make sure that submitted works include no information that may identify the relevant applicants. Any work that bears a name, affiliation, logo, etc. will be ruled ineligible.
- An applicant or an organization to which an applicant belongs will be excluded from the selection process of this event if they have a socially unacceptable relationship with antisocial forces or if they engage in any act that encourages the activities of antisocial forces. If this is discovered after the announcement of the prize winners, the prize given to such applicant or organization will be withdrawn, and no compensation will be made to them for the damage that they may incur in such a case.
(2) Prize-winning works
- The All Japan Real Estate Association may co-create (adapt / produce) videos or other types of works for display at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, using the prize-winning works.
- To do so, the event organizer will be permitted to use the prize-winning works exclusively without any charge from the day when the prize winners are determined until December 31, 2025 when EXPO Osaka, Kansai closes. The prize winners will approve the foregoing.

In the above situation, the prize winners will cooperate with the production of videos and other forms of works to be exhibited in the Osaka Pavilion. The prize winners will separately receive a production cooperation fee (daily allowance plus actual costs including travel expenses) pursuant to the regulations of the event organizer.
The organizer may rescind a prize if it is unable to co-create videos or other forms of works to be displayed for a reason attributable to a prize winner including their refusal to cooperate. - The prize winners will have the right to make a work public and the right to determine the indication of an author’s name with respect to a video or other form of works produced using the prize-winning works.

- EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan is an international exhibition to be held in Yumeshima in the coastal part of Osaka City from April 13, 2025 to October 13, 2025.

The Osaka Healthcare Pavilion: Nest for Reborn is a pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai to be exhibited by Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City where the EXPO will take place.
The Pavilion is to be built in a good location near the new Yumeshima Station (provisional name) and the east entrance to the venue. - The theme of the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion: Nest for Reborn is “reborn,” meaning that people can change or take a new step. Under this theme, the Pavilion will display future urban lives from 2050 using both real and virtual media, from the viewpoint of health.

The All Japan Real Estate Association, which is the organizer of the MIRAI REBORN SUMAI Project, is a participant (Special Partner) which will exhibit at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion: Nest for Reborn.
The Association is working on a plan to use the prize-winning works in the competition to co-create (adapt / produce) audiovisual works for display with cooperation of the prize winners and to display the created works in real or virtual media at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion: Nest for Reborn.
